Supporting inclusion at SPECTRA 2026 💚
At We Too!, we’re always looking for ways to help families feel more confident, informed and included when attending events. That’s why we’re proud to be working alongside SPECTRA Festival of Light and Aberdeen City Council once again to support accessibility at SPECTRA 2026.
SPECTRA is a truly magical event. For a few nights in February, Aberdeen comes alive with light installations, projections and performances that are free for everyone to enjoy. It’s an incredible experience, but we also know that busy, outdoor festivals can feel overwhelming for some families, particularly those with children who have additional support needs.
That’s where We Too! comes in.
Throughout the festival, our amazing volunteers, better known as the We Too! Ninjas, will be out and about across the city wearing bright vests and ready to help. They’ll be there to offer a friendly face, answer questions, and point people in the right direction if they need accessibility information, quieter routes, or a bit of reassurance.
We’ll also be supporting the accessibility desks during festival hours, making sure visitors can get practical, up-to-date information about parking, routes, sensory spaces and what to expect around the city centre.
Accessibility Information Desks
Accessibility Information Desks will be available between 5.30pm and 8.30pm on festival nights at:
- Aberdeen Town House (Queen Street entrance)
- Aberdeen Trinity Centre on Union Street, entrance closest to HMV
Our Ninjas will also be nearby if you need a hand.
Taking a break when you need one
If you need a pause during SPECTRA, that’s okay. We get it.
Sensory Break Out Areas will be available during festival hours for visitors who need a quieter space away from the lights, sounds and crowds. These spaces are there for:
- Taking a break
- Regulating
- Resting before heading back out
Support and information about sensory spaces is available from the Accessibility Information Desks, and from our Ninjas across the site.
Something new for 2026
We’re especially excited about a couple of additional ways we’re supporting families this year.
On Wednesday 4 February, we’re running our Quiet Tour between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, designed for those who prefer to experience the festival in a calmer, more supported way. We’re delighted to say that this tour is now fully booked.
Alongside this, we’re delivering our first ever Accessible SPECTRA BSL Tour, led by local Ninja Colin. The tour is light-hearted and informal, with basic facts about the installations shared in a clear and accessible way. It’s designed to complement a series of signed videos that will also be available online.
The BSL videos can be watched in your own time on other evenings by scanning a QR code at the festival. If you don’t have a smartphone, just look out for one of our Ninjas with the green iPads, who’ll be happy to help.
The BSL Tour is now fully booked.

Planning ahead makes a difference
In the lead-up to the festival, we’ve been sharing tips, videos and updates on our social channels to help families plan ahead. Being able to see what a place looks like, understand where facilities are, and know who to ask for help can make a huge difference to how confident people feel about attending.
This partnership means a lot to us. It’s a great example of what can happen when organisations work together with inclusion at the heart of planning, not as an afterthought.
If you’re coming along to SPECTRA this February, keep an eye out for our Ninjas and feel free to say hello. We hope you have a brilliant time exploring the lights and enjoying everything the festival has to offer.
And if you’re one of our volunteers supporting SPECTRA this year, thank you. You’re helping to make a real difference for families across Aberdeen. 💚
